It wasn’t uncommon to find Blaine wondering around their house on his own at any given time. Sometimes he was in the house more than Burt was himself these days, flying back and forth to DC every week. Blaine liked spending time at the Hudson-Hummel house; he told Burt so himself. Usually he and Kurt would be up to something, but in few and far between occasions, Burt would find him just hanging out with Finn or Sam. It just wasn’t unusual, so when Blaine came over that Saturday, Burt was just waiting for the moment that he could snag Blaine alone. When Blaine walked past him in the living room, headed for the kitchen, Burt was right up to follow.
Glancing up from the glass of water he was getting for himself, he said hello in that overly-polite way that Burt knew over time was just a convention and had told Blaine enough times to stop. Burt nodded back and pulled up one of the bar stools to the island, getting to it. “I’m planning a graduation present for Kurt and I was wondering if you could help me.”
“Okay,” Blaine answered, setting his glass on the island as well and leaning forward to give the man his full attention. Probably this was just going to be like at Christmas when Burt point-blank asked Blaine what Kurt wanted. If your son is going to have a boyfriend, might as well put the guy to work, right?
“I need like a sparkly sequined glove… and maybe a unitard… No,” Burt amended quickly, “forget the unitard. I’m not wearing that.” Blaine’s eyebrow rose up to his hairline and he stood silent, hand wrapped loosely around the water glass. ”Oh, also, I need the phone numbers of two of your friends, Brittany and Tina.”
Blaine blinked slowly while his brain tried to put this information together, but it didn’t make sense. Actually, if it was anyone other than Burt, it probably would have bordered on creepy.
There were a lot of questions that Blaine wanted to ask, but all that came out was, “why would I know where to get a sequined glove?”
This time, Burt raised an eyebrow critically. “Do you know where I can get a sequined glove?”
Blaine sighed and busied himself this water glass. He replied meekly, “yeah, I have one.”
